Barcelona Transfer News: Rafinha Wanted by Celta Vigo in Latest Rumours

Image
Celta Vigo reportedly want to bring in Rafinha from Barcelona on loan in the January transfer window. The 24-year-old is fully fit after nine months out with injury, and Celta have already enquired over his availability, per Sport 's  Ivan San Antonio . Barcelona are keen to trim the squad in the winter transfer market and Rafinha could be allowed to leave. He could also be tempted by Celta as he enjoyed a loan spell with the club during the 2013-14 season. Celta are also managed by Juan Carlos Unzue , who joined the club in the summer after seven years at Barcelona, most recently as former manager Luis Enrique's assistant. Rafinha has endured a long spell out with knee trouble and has only recently been given clearance to return to action, per Barcelona's Twitter account: The Brazilian is yet to make a single appearance for Ernesto Valverde 's side this season. He may also find it difficult to break into the team after such a long lay-off, particularly wi...

Trae Young's Brilliance Propels Oklahoma to Narrow Win vs. TCU

Image
The No. 12 Oklahoma Sooners handed the No. 10 TCU Horned Frogs their first loss of the season Saturday, winning 90-89   at Ed and Rae Schollmaier Arena in Fort Worth, Texas, due to another spectacular showing by freshman guard Trae Young . Young helped the Sooners improve to 11-1 with 39 points, 14 assists, four rebounds and two steals. He also had seven turnovers. TCU fell to 12-1, despite a great game from senior guard Kenrich Williams, who finished with 22 points, nine rebounds, six assists and four steals. Williams missed the Horned Frogs' last game against William & Mary, but he bounced back from a knee injury to play Saturday. His stat sheet-stuffing performance wasn't enough for the Horned Frogs, though, as Young's dominance and a 22-point effort from Kameron McGusty allowed Oklahoma to prevail despite trailing for much of the game. Here's a lengthy highlight reel featuring many of Young's remarkable plays: Per ESPN Stats & Info, Oklahoma ente...

Arsenal have reportedly entered the race to sign Bordeaux winger Malcom , but they face competition from  Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur . The Gunners want to replace Alexis Sanchez, who has just six months left on his current deal at the Emirates Stadium, and it's said Malcom will be allowed to leave in the summer as part of a gentleman's agreement with his club. The  20-year-old has taken Ligue 1 by storm this season, per WhoScored .com: Malcom is an eye-catching and versatile operator on the wing. While he has exclusively played on the right this season, he's equally comfortably on the left or through the centre. The Brazilian isn't just flashy, though. Iowa State Narrowly Holds off Memphis for Liberty Bowl Win

Image
The Iowa State Cyclones held off the No. 20 Memphis Tigers 21-20 in Saturday's Liberty Bowl at Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium in Memphis, Tennessee. Quarterback Kyle Kempt and wide receiver Allen Lazard led the way for Iowa State. Kempt threw for 314 yards and two touchdowns, while Lazard hauled in a Liberty Bowl record-tying 10 catches for 142 yards and one touchdown. Quarterback Riley Ferguson finished with 286 passing yards and two touchdowns for Memphis, but it fell to 10-3, failing to record the first 11-win season in program history. The Cyclones' 8-5 record marked their best finish since a 9-3 campaign in 2000, and the bowl win was only the fourth in program history. Iowa State led for much of what was a close game from start to finish, and the Cyclones set the tone with a touchdown less than two minutes into the contest. Kempt found wide receiver Hakeem Butler for a 52-yard score, as seen in this video courtesy of Cyclone Football: The Tigers answered later in the...

Lamar Jackson Struggles as Mississippi St. Beats Louisville in TaxSlayer Bowl

Image
Keytaon Thompson scored three rushing touchdowns Saturday to help Mississippi State overcome the Lamar Jackson -led Louisville Cardinals for a 31-27 victory in the 2017 TaxSlayer Bowl at EverBank Field in Jacksonville, Florida. Jackson finished the game, and perhaps his college career, with 329 yards of offense (171 passing and 158 rushing), three total touchdowns and four interceptions. The quarterback must now decide whether to enter the 2018 NFL draft or return for his senior season. Meanwhile, the Bulldogs were forced to play without starting QB Nick Fitzgerald, who's recovering from an ankle injury. The program received a glimpse of the future courtesy of a strong outing from Thompson. The true freshman backup tallied 274 total yards in his first career start. Mississippi State played under the guidance of interim head coach Greg Knox following Dan Mullen's departure for Florida. Former Penn State offensive coordinator Joe Moorhead will take over the program for the 201...

LeBron James Says Cavaliers 'Need' a Win vs. Jazz on His 33rd Birthday

As LeBron James celebrates his 33rd birthday Saturday, his one wish is for the Cleveland Cavaliers to get a victory over the Utah Jazz .  Speaking to reporters prior to the Cavs' shootaround Saturday, James noted his road woes against the Jazz make this game essential for his team to take.  "I need a win here," he said, via ESPN.com's Dave McMenamin . "I suck here. I personally don't suck, but my team sucks when we come here. We cannot win a game. So hopefully we can change that." James is averaging 27.2 points, 4.8 assists and 7.9 rebounds per game at Vivint Smart Home Arena. His teams, however, haven't won in the Jazz's home building since 2011 when he played for the Miami Heat .  There have been some close calls during James' six-game losing streak in Utah. The Jazz beat the Heat 99-98 in March 2012 thanks to Devin Harris' three-point play with 4.5 seconds to go. Gordon Hayward broke a 100-100 tie against the Cavaliers with a 20-...

NFL Playoffs 2018: Wild Card Format, Updated Bracket and Known Schedule

Image
The Carolina Panthers have clinched a playoff spot in the NFC. While they could climb as high as the No. 2 spot if circumstances break the right way for them, they will most likely take the top wild-card spot and the No. 5 seed. In the AFC, neither of the two wild cards have been clinched, but the Baltimore Ravens (9-6) are in excellent shape to earn the fifth seed. They are currently in that position and will clinch that spot   if they defeat the Cincinnati Bengals at home in the regular-season finale. The four division winners in the AFC have already established their position. The New England Patriots (12-3) and Pittsburgh Steelers (12-3) are in the No. 1 and 2 positions respectively, and they will stay in that order if the Pats can beat the New York Jets at home. The Jacksonville Jaguars (10-5) and Kansas City (9-6) are locked into the third and fourth seeds as the AFC South and West champions, respectively. Both the Jaguars and Chiefs will host games during the wild-card w...

Giannis Antetokounmpo out of Bounds on Controversial Play vs. Thunder, NBA Says

Image
The NBA acknowledged Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo stepped out of bounds before his game-winning dunk Friday night against the Oklahoma City Thunder . On Saturday, the league released its Last Two Minute Report for the game at Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City, and it marked the out-of-bounds decision as an "incorrect non-call." The dunk gave Milwaukee a 97-95 win after OKC guard Russell Westbrook tied the contest with five seconds left. Thunder forward Carmelo Anthony predicted the NBA's mea culpa following the game. "I guess we'll see something on the ticker that says referees missed that one," he   told reporters . "We can't do nothing about that at this point, so we might as well forget about it and move on and get ready for—who we play Sunday? Dallas ? Get ready for Dallas." Meanwhile, officiating crew chief Derrick Stafford explained to a pool reporter the referees couldn't review the play in questi...

Manchester United Play Scoreless Draw vs. Southampton as Romelu Lukaku Injured

Image
Manchester United 's winless run extended to four matches in all competitions as they were held to a 0-0 draw at home to Southampton on Saturday. It was a poor performance from start to finish for the hosts, who had Romelu Lukaku stretchered off early on with a head injury, while Paul Pogba was guilty of costing United a goal after he diverted an already goal-bound effort in from an offside position. The result left the Red Devils 14 points behind league leaders Manchester City —who have a game in hand —and their insipid play in front of goal was reminiscent of last season's struggles, which included just 54 goals and 15 draws. Lukaku should have done better with a header in the opening minutes when he rose to meet Juan Mata 's cross, but he had no opportunity to make amends for the miss as he was taken off shortly after clashing heads with Wesley Hoedt, per Indy Football: The Belgian had failed to hit the target from six yards, and Hoedt did the same with a header ...
