Lewis Ferguson dashed Steven Gerrard’s hopes of leading Rangers out at the Scottish League Cup final as his late winner sealed a 1-0 triumph for Aberdeen at Hampden.

The Ibrox manager was hoping to mark his first six months in charge of the side by leading them out against Celtic on 2 December. But Ferguson, son of the former Ibrox player Derek and nephew of the former captain Barry, wrecked those plans as he headed home the winner with 11 minutes left.
