• Pep Guardiola will not tolerate ‘excuses’ in title run-in

Pep Guardiola could be without Fernandinho and Aymeric Laporte, two key Manchester City players, for up to five matches.

Fernandinho is City’s pivotal midfielder, a player whom Guardiola rates so highly he could not find competition for the Brazilian in the summer transfer window. When he was injured in December, City suffered two of their four league defeats, at home to Crystal Palace and at Leicester. Laporte, meanwhile, is City’s best defender.
